Designing Your Own Diet Recipe
Lorelei Vener
Finding diet recipes that work well and are easy to work into an everyday routine can be difficult. A lot of diets require buying strange food supplements to "enhance the metabolism" or eating only plain, flavorless meals that are difficult to force down. It is possible to have a tasty diet without wasting money on supplements, but it might require cleaning out the fridge and getting rid of a lot of canned, boxed and over-processed foods.
It is true that diet recipes will require spending a little bit more money than usual on groceries, especially if the usual grocery store trip means picking up a box of pancake mix, frozen meals and canned food. Picking up fresh, not frozen, chicken breasts and lean hamburger can be a good start. These meats are easy to cook without fattening oil in a frying pan or on a skillet. Hamburger is naturally flavorful, but can taste better if cooked with fresh red or green peppers, onions, or tomatoes. Chicken is delicious with balsamic vinegar, a low calorie, high flavor way to make a meal taste great.
Vegetables are incredibly important in any healthy diet. Choose a wide variety of vegetables and don't be afraid to try new ones. Tomatoes and peppers are delicious, acidic and full of Vitamin C. Potatoes are tasty, but they are a starch, not a vegetable and should be eaten in moderation. Celery can be added to diet recipes easily because it is a filling snack with very little caloric consequence.
There is not a need to cut out carbohydrates completely, but they should be eaten in moderation. All bread should be high in fiber, high in protein and whole grain. Steamed brown rice is a good addition to a chicken and broccoli meal. However, to lose weight, have more overall energy and be healthier, one should avoid white carbohydrates.
