Drink Yourself Thin
Christi Hickman
It is incredibly easy to drink the majority of your daily calories. You do not have to fill up on soda or sugary drinks to blow your fat loss diet goals without even realizing why. Ordering a 12oz vanilla latte may seem innocent enough at 190 calories and 27g of carbs. But make a slight change to sugar-free vanilla and non-fat milk and the same drink is only 90 calories with just 14g of carbs. If you are like me and drink more than one coffee a day, this is like getting 2 for 1.
Blended coffee drinks are an even bigger fat loss diet wrecker. A small frappuccino is 450 calories and 61g of carbs. Order your sugar-free drink iced and blended instead, for 1/5th of the calories and a fraction of the carbs. It is just as refreshing and you still get that much-needed calcium and protein from the milk to help whittle your waist.
Despite their zero calorie enticement, stay away from diet sodas. Although you do not get direct calories from the drink itself, the aspartame in them adversely affects your glucose levels, which eventually makes you over-eat and choose options that are higher in carbs and fat. If carbonation is a necessity, switch to sparkling waters and add fresh fruit juice to taste.
Also on the market are fabulous, take-anywhere packets of real lemon, lime or orange in convenient granules. They only add 5 calories to any beverage with maximum flavor boost.
The best thing you can do for your diet and your health is to drink water and lots of it. If plain water just does not cut it, hot green tea is the perfect way to get much-needed antioxidants and a little flavor kick. If you keep track of not only what you eat, but what drinks you choose, you can maximize your fat loss diet without feeling deprived.
